MY CAR IS A 1964. THE NUMBERS ON THE STEERING BOX ARE 566672354. THE NCRS MANUAL SHOWS THESE NUMBERS LESS THE 54 ON THE END. WHAT WOULD THE 54 REPRESENT?

Here's a late '65
Jerry -- the suffix # is probably just a mould #, but there may be some date info there (the one below is off a late '65, so "55" could be May of 1965. After seeing that yours is "54", is your car after May of 1964 ?
The '65 TIM&JG says the same as your '64.

Re: Here's a late '65
Sorry can't help you with the extra two digits. My late 1966 lid has the casting number then "59".
While we are on the steering box subject, what is the correct casting number for the case? Does it change for different years of C2's?
My case looks like it has: 5677348?
Thanks Ken- Top

Main box casting from same late '65
Ken --- I guess your "59" puts the boots to the month/year hypothesis. So looks like it's a progressive mould number. eg. I wouldn't expect a '67 Corvette to have a "54".
Number seems to 5677649; not mentioned in TIM&JG 'cause you can't see it when installed.

Re: Main box casting from same late '65
The box that is on my 63 has the number 5666723 11 on it...so that doesn't seem to add up to a date?? My box also does not have the check fluid words cast into the top. Not sure if this is right for my car or not.- Top

Re: Main box casting from 64
The two digits after the casting number are foundry pattern numbers.- Top
