    54 fuel pump

    Paging C-1 experts......

I am in need of detailed information concerning the correct fuel pump useage for an EARLY 1954 Corvette. I have searched some pictures on the net and have found two different styles being used. The first being with a glass filter on top of the pump and the second without the top filter. Is there an indicator by chassis number, date, etc that would tell me which is correct? Could it be either one?

Thanks in advance for the help,

    David

    Re: 54 fuel pump

All had the glass bowl on the top of the fuel pump.

The difference between early and late is the position of the fuel filter.

VERY early 54's used the 53 style system, with the fuel filter in front of the first carburetor. These used the 9797 fuel pump.

ALL the rest used the 4132 pump with the fuel filter directly ahead of the fuel pump.

Regardless, both 9797 and 4132 pumps had the glass bowl on top. Chuck

      Chuck,

      Thanks for the quick response.

This car is #315. It currently has a fuel pump without the glass filter on top and a glass filter in front of it. The car has sat for 12-15 years and I have been contracted to "get it running". I figure if the pump, filter, etc need to be replaced anyway, I probably should put the correct pieces back on the car.

If it has the filter directly in front of the fuel pump, and it is parallel to the long axis of the engine block, you have the "standard" 54 setup.

The original pump is stamped 4132, and has the glass dome on top. The original fuel filter is an AC "high dome" fuel filter.

The filter itself? Hmmmm. Some say ceramic/stone (a reddish color), some say the stacked plate design. Chuck

Nice looking engine and frame. Clean enough to eat off of!
