Re: bore it to 4.000" lots of piston choice
Clem,
You bring back memories: 4 inch bore, 301 cubic inches, Duntov cam, lots of revs, a good combination that we ran for years.
Most early 283 blocks will bore to 4.000" and survive. People now are afraid to bore over .060 because later blocks are thinner.
Oh well, the old cars (and old drivers) don't get driven like that any more so the minimum bore necessary is probably a good idea.

Re: my 302 Z-28 was a "giant killer" as those 302
I agree Clem, I've had 3 69 Z/28s. The 302 loved to rev. I put a set of Hookers on all of mine. The only bad thing is you had to run some steep gears and drive it like you hated it. I was out in my shed the other day and ran across a set of original 302 pistons. I picked the nicest one out and cleaned it up and polished it a little bit on the wheel and it looks nice sitting on my toolbox.
