Since I am "brand new" to the NCRS & it's judging criteria, plus I have only entered my other Vettes (85 & non CE 82) into Local Quad C shows etc I would guess the short answer is to bite the bullet & pay for the decal set. I would assume that making sure how the stripes are laid down & over lapped is also important too ??
I am waiting for the restoration info I ordered when I joined the NCRS to arrive so I can start the process & do it right.

The short answer is yes! The five elements of originality are date, completeness, configuration, finish and installation. If decals are improperly installed...that could be a 20% hit. If you did your paint on decals, the hit could be configuration, date, completeness and install so it adds up quickly.

Also, the assembly instruction manual (AIM) offers detailed guidance for the application of decals. I would use it, make copies for your paint guy and instruct him to use it or lose his life. Let him know you're not looking for creativity especially after you put out $1,000 for the decals because there is a wad of them.

Tell the body shop to be VERY careful installing the decal. Our shop once took three tries to get a perfect installation on the hood. And yes, we had to pay for two of them ourselves--probably lost money on that job.
