The judging manual states that certain areas of the brake calipers on a 67 corvette were machined after the caliper was painted so these areas should be bare steel. Could someone tell me exactly what spots on the calipers should not have paint on them. Thanks, Don.

Re: Question on 67 brake calipers
Don, Look at your calipers closely and you will see that most, but not all of the surface is rough as cast iron. These areas are painted. Now look at the top surface around the retaining pin, this area is machined and has a differant texture, it should be free of paint, also around the area where the brake hose attachs should be free of paint. Most calipers also had a dab of contrasting paint somewhere on them. Bill- Top

Re: Question on 67 brake calipers
Don,
My understanding is the bolts originally had a black phosphate finish, and would be unpainted. As John said, any surface that is smooth, or machined would be unpainted, including the flat area where the bolt heads would come in contact with the caliper.- Top
