C2 Carpet padding - selection & placement?

I've been through the archives and JG/AIM and need help on where the jute padding goes and also how thick it is supposed to be.
Background: have 67 conv. w/interior out, new AK carpet and old was no help (missing). I didn't get the correct jute thinking that what was there was good - just doing a color change on an interior that was done about 6 years ago. Local shop has multiple materials to choose from.
Pro's & Con's on what to use & where to use it. It is a nice driver that I am doing as "correct" as possible (other than color).

In the assembly guide, pages for carpet outline are designated for either a roadster or a coupe. The dotted lines in the AIM illustration designate the underlayment patterns. I believe the roadster has a different pattern than a coupe.

Original underlayment is molded tar paper type stuff with jute attached. The repro stuff is a thicker different type of jute. The tar paper stuff also seems to be thicker. I have tried to find a good source for the original with no luck. LIC or Knoch seem to be the best repro. If you find a source for the original, I would be interested.

There should be a block of pressed cardboard about 3/8 in thick under the accel to account for the tar/jute underlayment. The accel is bolted thru this to the floor.

I purchased my carpet and underlayment from Al Knoch. His jute padding is about 1/2 inch thick with a black layer bonded to one side. It may not be completely original, but I expect it to fit and function well.

Would someone explain differences between jute and underlayment. Some vendors sell jute only around $25 and others sell undelayment around $75 to $100 so I don't think these are the same. I think the underlayment is the 1/4" thick wooly/fiber stuff but what is jute? UPC 1 F11 makes no reference.

Underlyment refers to everything between the body and the carpet. Jute is that brown, hair-like, fuzzy substance used as an insulating material...
