Depending on the state, some DMVs will release some degree of owner history. My experience with California and Tennessee has been that the amount of information varied both in the number of years and in the degree of detail offered. Check the affected DMV website for more information on the forms and procedure for requesting information.

Also, contacting known previous owners can be fruitful if they are willing to discuss the vehicle's history. I never was much for cold calling out of respect for their privacy.

      Good luck.

        Thank you Tracy,
As you can see no one in this NCRS will give me time of day.
I only stay in NCRS because my cars previous 3 owners all were NCRS. But this car has had bad luck as an NCRS member & she is an all original car.
I'd say more but NCRS would probably erase it.They can't handle honest constructive critisism.
        Cheers,& THX again

I think your statement about the time of day is way off. Not everybody sits at their computor waiting for someone to post a question. Some of us actually have real jobs, well sort of real anyway. You need to learn some patience when asking questions on this board. I don't think any one is trying to avoid you. Some times the people who know the answer to your question are just not available. Just my 2 cents.

Looks like to me 2 people answered within an hour and a half before you stated you weren`t given the time of day.

              Hey Mark,
Thank you for your kind response. I already had a message deleted this morning. I haven't posted for about a year, I justed wanted to help a newbie, I was there once.I was as thoughtful to him as you were to me. I to will not cold call someone. That is why I figured it would be best for me to ask.
Thank you Sir for your kindness,
              Deb

Do you want your money back? I have been a member since 1978 and am tired of tire kickers like you demeaning the organization. Give me your address and I will send a check.

WOW! Some of us must of gotten up on the wrong side of the bed! Debra I don't know you or your past with NCRS nor wish to but I don't need my two cents so here it is. Your message being deleted should be taken up with the administrators personally by phone or e-mail not with the people you're asking help from. Most of us have little control over your deleted message. Personally this board has been a Godsent for me on my projects AND I GREATLY APPRECIATE IT!

Back to your question if your car was at one time registered in Illinois you will probably hit a dead end with our DMV. However Missouri was helpful in helping with some of our info on our 64. They got me back to 1968. If you write a letter and possibly explain you are doing a research paper on the history of a certain car that may help instead of a phone call (it did for us). As Tracy mentioned the Driveline would get the information out for you. Almost everyone I have contacted thru the Driveline have been helpful in getting what I needed or passing me on to someone who could. After all most of them are either in our shoes or were at one time or another. Good Luck!

                          Deb -

Finding original owners and owner history can be just plain luck. About a year ago I assisted putting a current owner in touch with an original owner based on C1Registry info. You might post your car there and get lucky.
