    Question for Dick Whittington

    Dick,

As you were gleefully marking off points on the Mechanical of my poor 'ole '70 (just kidding), you said that I had an incorrect air cleaner wing nut. You stated that it was too thick. I have found what I believe is the original wing nut. What do you think?

Don't know 70's but the thickness is right, the repo looks like the size on my 67 but it as thin as your small one.

Remember what I said about the "nickle and dime"? The replacement is as thick as a nickle. The original are the thickness of a dime

I meant to add that I do not know if the angle of the picture makes the difference or what, but the original wing nuts are approximately the same size as the repro.

            Stephen-----

Depicted below is an absolutely guaranteed, known-original nut from 1969. 1970 used exactly the same nut.

              Addendum

By the way, the material thickness on the original wing nut is right at 0.0675"

Hey Joe how thick is a dime and a nickel? I can't find my 1" Mikes.

                  Terry----

A dime is, nominally, 0.052" thick. A nickel is 0.074".
