    C2 Battery Box Finish and Production Order

    For a Mar64 car;

    Cleaning up the battery box and accessories which are black and have been out of car since early 70's. The black finish is everywhere on the box leading me to believe that it came in that way to the porduction line. However the hold down stud on the engine side shows evidence of red primer then black.

    Is it right to say that the box was installed then the blackout process which explains the primer. If so than what was the original finish on the battery box before being installed on frame? Would suspect a different tone of black on the (engine side) front are of box. AND was the battery in also??
    Thanks

    Alan -

    The battery tray was dip-primed semi-gloss black before it was attached to the frame on the Chassis Line, and the battery (and retaining hardware) was installed in the tray prior to Body Drop. There should be no primer of any kind on the tray and hardware, unless the car had a partial re-spray in Final Paint Repair after it came off the line.

      Thanks John,

      Started to remove paint from stud and found it was rust, not primer. Guess I'm being a little to careful and slow.
      PS - from assembly discription it appears the two studs should not be painted, ?

        Alan -

        Correct - no paint on the studs.
