For years there was a Green 1965 that was shown around as the last 396 -- then two more later 1965s showed up -- one of which was a 396. I can't recall the color of that car, so maybe your buddy has it.
I think the moral of that story was that the highest serial number produced according to Chevrolet wasn't correct in 1965.
