While putting the motor back in my 63 and hooking everything else up the way it was I notice a wire that has always been off and/or never connected to anything except the windshield wiper motor. I noticed it because it sparked. So it was a "hot" wire. I used a electricity tester-one with just the light on it. I touched the windshield wiper motor, the metal casing was "hot." With the key off the windshield motor hums, but the wipers don't wipe and with the key on the wipers work. There are three "sets" of wires connected to the windshield wiper motor; one single, two connected wires, and three connected wires. I unplugged the single wire that connects to it. That one was feeding it juice. That stopped the problem, but didn't solve it. What is going on, can anyone tell me? Is there a wire crossed somewhere? Thank you in advance! And, I will let you know what it was when it is fixed.

Re: "Hot" Windshield Wiper Motor!
John, if you have an electrical schematic, either from your assembly manual or the GM Chassis Service manual, you can trace the colored wires and see which one is the one that is off and hot. Theses are not very difficult to follow, which is why I guess they make some sense to me. When I get back home, I will look up the wire colors for my 66 and see if they are the same. Gary- Top

Re: "Hot" Windshield Wiper Motor!
While hooking the motor back up you probably made a very common mistake! I think the "hot" wire you are talking about is the single black GROUND wire connected to the wiper motor. It has 12V because the black accessories GROUND wire at the starter connection is on the POSITIVE battery cable post on the solenoid. Take it off and put it to ground on the starter to block attaching bolt. Now the wiper and heater blower motor will be properly grounded.
Good luck, WB- Top
