1976 Stringray Hood Release

Can some one let me know how to pop open the hood on a 1976 stringray ,the hood release is not working .

Depends on what specifically broke on your car (the handle release to LH latch, the RH to LH latch interconnect cable, or the physical mounting of the catches to their firewall position). But, if you study the firewall lip in front of the windshield wipers, you should find holes with plastic knock out plugs that allow access to the hood release latches.

Basically, you want to manually push the release levers on the latches to make the hood let go. Another approach is to come up from below the engine and get a gripe on the release latch handles. But, this can be 'dicey' with options like a power brake booster blocking your path on the LH side of the car...

Thank you for the replies I found the access holes but still can't release the hood. I've been poking around for hours. Are the release levers straight in the hole or to the right or left side ? I even snapped the hood release cable in the car. Thanks again Rick Martino
