    changing a Hurst shifter

Can any one give me a easier way to change a Hurst to a stock shifter? Notice I said easier not easy. Looks like the exhaust has to come down. Any help would be appreciated. Dale

    Re: changing a Hurst shifter

When I changed mine on my 65, I lowered the trany by taking the mount out and the exhaust bracket and letting the trany rest on the crossmember. It gave me a little more room to get at the bolt to remove the shifter. It takes a while to get the bolt out because you can only turn it about a 1/8 of a turn each time you put the wrench on it. The stock shifter goes in easy. A latter year corvette might be different because some shifters were not mounted on the transmission. Mike

snap-on has a 1/4"drive swivel socket that will get in there and do the job. you'll need extensions about 18" in length also. mike
