    70 LAUGUNA GRAY

THE 70 COUPE I JUST BOUGHT THIS SUMMER IS MARLBORO MAROON

IT SHOULD BE LAUGUNA GRAY, WERE MANNY PAINTED THIS COLOR?

CAN ANY ONE SHARE SOME PICTURES OF THERES?

SOME GUYS SAY THE COLOR IS SWEET, OTHERS SAY LOOKS LIKE SHINNY PRIMER.

ANY PICTURES AND OPINIONS WOULD BE APPRICIATED, GOOD OR BAD

    Re: 70 LAUGUNA GRAY

I just purchased a 70 LT-1 coupe in Lauguna Gray. I think it's a nice color. The hood has the original paint.

      Ray,

Check out the 70 Corvette Registry website. They have color charts showing the relative rarity of exterior colors/ interior colors.

        they named it wrong

I would have called it Laguana Blue. It depends on the light but in most cases it looks more blue to me than grey, or maybe grey with a heavy blue tinge. My car a custom bronze stuck on over the laguna grey. Spent many years about 15 before I saw one at Carlise then later one owned by a guy in Toronto.

My drafting board sits behind me in Laguna grey and my racing bike as well. Neither of them look like primer. Maybe it the paint was good and tired and oxidised it may look dull but same for any paint.

I havne't figured out how to do the remote post but if you want to send me an e-mail at sawdust@look.ca I will send you three or four five photos of Laguana grey cars.

          Re: 70 LAUGUNA GRAY

Popularity of automotive colors wax and wane from one decade to the next. It seems to me that I see fewer Laguna Gray cars than other colors, but there is no way of knowing what percentage of 70s were Laguna Gray because production records were not kept by color.

The good news is...In this decade, dark metallic grays and silvers are hot. A color that was very popular on C5 Corvettes, but now discontinued, was Spiral Gray Metallic. It reminds me of Laguna Gray, and many want it brought back.

Anyone that says Laguna Gray looks like shiny primer has never seen one that wasn't weathered right down to the last of the metallic. Depending on your purposes for the car, todays urethane BC/CC products will give you a finish about a mile deep (Umhhh...Not good for judging...at best "over-restoration"; at worst, it won't "look like lacquer").
