Can some one with an unrestored 66 with power steering look at the end cap (dust cover) on the power steering control valve? I would like to know if an X or a C is stamped on the cover. The cover is visible behind the left front wheel where the two power steering lines cross each other coming out of the control valve. You don't need to get under the car to look at it, but you may need a flashlight. - Dave

Re: Can someone with an unrestored 66 with Power S
Hi Dave ~
The following is gleaned from my 1963 Shop & 1966 Corvette chassis overhaul manual under section 9 (steering control valve).
NOTE: Corvette valve incorporates a 55 lb. centering spring which is physically but not functionally interchangeable with the Chevrolet & Chevy II springs which is a 30 lb. spring. The Corvette valve incoporating this spring is identified by an "X" stamped on the dust cover...
As a chassis judge on both the '65 & '66 I have observed the "X" in Bowtie & Flight judging.
I am not certain what the "C" represents. I thought it was Chevrolet but it maybe the vendor. I have several of the older passenger car valves & they have plain caps...
