    69 LT-1 ??

For those of you that were tracking this thread last week... The Inst Cluster is dated 26 Aug 69... Haven't got it out far enough to see the back of the cluster (yet) but I can read the cluster tag. No build sheet so far...

Does anyone know what the tach part number is for the high redline tach (LT-1)? There's a Part Number I could match on the cluster tag.

    Thx,
    Curt

It's unlikely that the entire cluster would have been replaced if the tach was replaced. In any event, I believe that the part number for the high RPM tach assembly was GM #6468712. However, even if you find that number, all it means is that it's the tach that's in there now. Whether it was originally installed or later installed is the question that's not answered.

Joe, I agree... I was thinking that if the car came with the base as I think it did, and the cluster had been messed with it would show up here. The cluster tag which details the tach PN should be representative of the base and if it differed then it would imply one of 2 things. Either someone changed it after shipment or the entire cluster had been swapped out (which I don't think happened based on the date code). The PN you have below doesn't match the Cluster tag Tach PN so I think the former is what happened.

Would you happen to have the base Tach PN? Any advice on how to completely remove the inst panel? I'm starting to think they started with the panel and built the car around it...

Complete instructions can be found in the 1969 Chevrolet Service Manual. Basically remove the steering column, remove the screws on each side of the panel, the three top screws, the brackets on the lower edge. Gently pull the panel back and remove the tach and speedo cables. Carefully remove the light sockets and unplug the grounds that attach to the back side. Unless my feeble brain has forgotten something, I believe that you should be able to remove the panel now. The tach and speedo are in separate pods and can be removed separately once the panel is out.

          Curt-----

The part number I provided previously was for just the tachometer INSTRUMENT assembly and not the complete tachometer assembly as used in PRODUCTION (and, only available in PRODUCTION). The complete assembly used in PRODUCTION included not only the instrument but also all of the attached pieces.

In any event, the part number for the complete assembly (which is the number you should find on the rear of the assembly installed in the car) for the base engine unit is GM #6491493.
