    C2:67 Correct Alternator Clocking

Think I got the correct clocking now. Thanks to Jack H. I'm glad I took it off the car to reclock it. I would have really unset the brushes trying to do it on the car.

    Here's why:

You have to pull the case apart slightly to clear the boss on the lower alternator mount to rotate the back case. Pull it apart too far, and there go you brushes. On the bench you can use gravity to hold the cases and brushes in place.

Another question. Is this an original bolt head marking for the lower alternator bolt and a 67:

Not sure as I have had too many alternators on this car.

Now I'm looking for that little plastic clip between the harness and the rear case.

Re: 67 still not Correct Alternator Clocking

It appears you still are not clocked correctly for a 67. The ear for the bolt and the stamping should be in the same quadrant. The reason seems to be the alternator brace is incorrect. A 67 brace is not that curved.

Sharp eye Gene. The brace is a repro.

But the ear for the bolt and the stamping is in the same quadrant, both are on the front of the case.

Looks like I'm gonna refurb my original bent up brace. I always thought the repro was bigger and more curved as you observed. But it got by judging twice.

Thanks for your perspective, I'm gonna put the original back on.

        Jerry,
The clocking looks fine to me?? But my alternator is much closer to the engine. So I guess, as noted, the brace is the culprit.

          Re: C2:67 Correct Alternator Clocking

          Hi Gerry,

If you do pull the Alternator apart fully, you can reassemble it by putting a flat toothpick in the brush carriage. The toothpick then protrudes through the small hole in the back plate of the alternator through the small hole beneath the snap in plug. When you remove the pick ,the brushes are pushed down onto the slip rings by the springs in the brush carriage.

Dont ask me how I know. just fixing that problem after judging at Kissimmee.

          Jack

The photo that Paul has is correct clocking. If yours is like that it is good. The incorrect replacement brace has the alternator so tilted it appeared incorrect clocking.
