Title/History Search in Cali..

I have attempted on a few occasions to pry information out of the California DMV. Managed to get a few nuggets, but for the most part have been frustrated.

Does anyone know what form I need to check a title history?
Are there any secrets or helpful hnits?

I know California has a neat site that allows you to check smog inspection history:

Found the plate numbers and test dates for my 89 and 78.

Now I need to find more.

The Form Has Changed, But...

The DMV apparently still allows you to request the current owner and up to three previous owners. I think you have to be the current owner to request the information, which is a computer printout. Press the button in the upper right hand corner of the form to get the instructions.
