    Transistor Ignition

Can someone set me straight on correct location and connector for TI amplifier on 67 big block. I assume on top of drivers side fender well is location for amp. Did amps have connector on the box or pigtail ?

    Re: Transistor Ignition

You are correct in the auumption that the amp went of the front of the drivers side inner fender. The amp, 1115005 had the plug on the box. The 1115543 had the pig tail and was for the '69-'71 cars and a later service replacement for the 005 box. T.I. Specialities has the correct plug to convert the later style box to earlier style.

The actual location is in the foreward corner just outboard of the rad support, and outside the engine compartment. There should be three holes already drilled into the front of the inner fender panel if it is an original. The harness plugs directly to the box on a '67.

Jerry The AIM for 67 is the best place to find that. Look in the options section and the measurments are right there. Your TI harness plugs into the female fitting on your TI box. Dale

Make sure you have correct style amp (2 pics)

I'm no '67 MY expert, but I'd be on the lookout for the correct design of backing plate, depending on early or late '67. Also notice the paper-backed foil label on the earlier '64-'67E(?) unit on the left.

click on following link for shot of back plate differences, and a Nov 1966 Chev Service News notification. The early cover has a curved edge, and the later type is flat (noticeable in the corners by the screws).

By the service news comment, obviously the newer design seal was not yet available in Dec '66. The goldenrod tech bulletin is dated Dec of 1967, but the text refers to the new seal being used in 1967 production. You guys will have to straighten me out on the chronology; whether ALL '67s had curved plates.

I believe the flat plate continued up to the end of K66 option (1972?), and the plug shown above was replaced sometime during the 1968 model run with the pigtail connector design.

Thanks a bunch for the help ! Now what I'm looking at makes sense .. it must be a service replacement.
