Just curious what the judges look for on the 69 brake shields(backing plates). Thanks. AG

Re: 69 brake shields
This has been discussed before, and the consensus was silver cad or zinc plating on the fronts, zinc galvanized or silver cad/zinc plating on the rears. I believe Joe Lucia said his original owner 69 had yellow dichromate on the fronts, but he it was the only one he had ever seen like that.
Best bet for judging is to forget the yellow dichromate (correct for later cars) and go with zinc plating on both fronts and rears.- Top

Re: 69 brake shields
Assume that judges will look for the presence of the part number. Several years back there were repro shields without the part number...those repros may still be out there, and that would cause judges to look for imposters without part numbers.
If your shields only need refinishing, that would be the course I would take; zinc plating is not that hard to find. If they are so deformed or rusted as to require replacement, check out the shields offered by Bair's Corvette...they sold NOS as long as they had them, and then offered what is described (I haven't examined them) as very good repro with part numbers. I don't think anyone still has NOS, but I could be wrong.- Top
