Rad shroud bolts. 1965 Vette

HI, Are the 6 bolts that hold the fan shroud on a 1965 vette with the 396 engine, pointed 5/16 X 20 cad or zinc plated bolts that had black out on them in the engine compartment. The AIM does not show that detail of whether they were pointed or not. The judging manual does not mention that either.

Jack -

That bolt (#120229) was also used for the fan shroud attachment on all other '65 engine combinations. Don't recall the finish, but they wouldn't have been "blacked out" (the blackout operation was done in the Paint Shop, long before the fan shroud was installed).

Are these the bolts with the "WB" head mark? I removed the radiator and shroud from my '65 327/350 equipped car last night and it had a mix of bolts with the pointed end and the "WB" head mark and some that were were a recessed head, pointed end similar to a seat attachment bolt. What is correct?

James, What colour were the bolts that you removed. And did they have captured washers or just plane washers or just plain lock washers.?

The bolts with the "WB" head mark had a slight film of rust as if the cad plating was gone and had loose flat washers. The other bolts with the recessed head were a grey to black color with captured washers.

HI James Were the two black bolts at the top of the shroud on ie 1 on each side?

They were on/in both locations at the top of the radiator core support bracket that held the fan shroud to the core support.
