original vs. repro knock off hammer

I'm trying to find out the difference between a reproduction and original knock off lead hammer for 63 through 66 corvettes. I have one but I don't know if it is original or not. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Don.

Re: original vs. repro knock off hammer

service replacements have a bead of weld, prominent, at the junction of the handle and the head. originals don't. mike

See Noland Adams' Vol 2 book...

for drawings and a textual tutorial on the differences in lead hammers. Try page 300 in the 1965 section on the P48 option...

Thanks Jack! Thanks Mike! You were both very helpful. Mine does not have the weld where the handle meets the head. Don

Re: Weld OK on early units, pn 3859067

The early hammer, 3859067, calls for a weld - see Noland page 300. The next generation did not use a weld. So if one has a hammer with the weld it would be correct for 64 - mid 65.
