    C3 blower motor problem

I'm in the process of repairing all the little problems on my '72 coupe. One problem I haven't been able to track down is a cockpit blower motor switch problem. The motor works fine in all speeds, with the problem being the fan continues to run, even with the key switch off, unless I turn off the entire system by way of the mode selector (heat, A/C, vent.) I thought this was a system that was wired thru the ignition switch, and should turn off when the key is off and removed. I've not been able to track the problem down, and is more of a nuisance to me than anything. But, I want it working correctly. Is my problem as simple as a bad ignition switch? Any help would be appreciated. One note, this is an all original car with no changes to the wiring under the dash since it left St. Louis. Thanks in advance.

I'm assuming by your post that you have owned the car since new. Have you checked the wireing against a wireing diagram? Maybe a wire has rubbed itself bare and is causing the problem. Electric problems can be a real pain. Usually it takes a process of elimination to find the problem. I would trace the wire back to the switch and test at the switch to see if the current is being turned off by the switch. If it is then the switch is good and you have a bare wire somewhere.

      Kurt,

I recently did some work on my 75 and had a similar problem. After much troubleshooting I discovered that I misinstalled the plug on the switch in the center console. It appears to be designed to "fit" only one way but somehow I managed to press it on incorrectly. I discovered the problem as accidently as I created it. So my advice is to check the electrical connection at the fan switch and make sure it is connected properly. Good luck!
