I have a '66 Coupe with Air and after 14 hours of attempting to remove my battery I have taken a "time out", called a Corvette expert and I am advised that mid-year Coupes with Air requires a partial disassembly of the master cylinder and brake lines to gain access to the battery (following which a bleeding of the brake system is required). I find this astounding and thought I would ask my fellow NCRS members at large (with a '66 Air Coupe) if they have found a similar problem and if that is the only solution.Any guidance or advice would be much appreciated.
For a 1966 small block with AC, the battery is accessed through a removable panel in the driver's side wheel well. Although this does require that you remove the front tire, it is considerably less troublesome than removing the master cylinder as suggested.
You have been given good info from your previous posts. Always remember if you get ready to do some work on your car and your not sure and haven't really gotten a handle on the proper steps to take (make an assesment)and post it. Also helps if you have a manual. If you need a manual they sell them through the NCRS.grr#33570
Many thanks to those who posted help responses (I have e-mailed each of you individually with thanks). I am posting the "fix" for those who might run into similar problems removing a battery in a '66 Coupe/Air/small block. A small block A/C coupe is the same as a big block-you must remove front left wheel and remove the access panel - the battery slides out relatively easily. Thanks to all (Bill #33379)
