I am the third owner of a 1964 Coupe. What web site will allow me to search an 11 digit serial #, per 1982. I am trying to find the name of the original owner and the dealership of original purchase. Thank you

Re: Serial # search
wouldn't we all. there is no such animal. research and luck is the only answer. you have to go back one owner at a time. look for clues oil stickers reciepts etc. motor vehicle searches bare little fruit. start with the oldest(not age) owner you can. bill- Top

no easy way.
Terry, Unfortunately there is no easy way to do that. GM does not have any Corvette data that predates 1977. The only sure way is to trace it back yourself. Start with the last state it is/was registered in and send away for the title histories. Post an ad in the driveline. Do a google search etc.

Re: Serial # search
Not to discourage you but I tried for 25 years to find out who the original owner of my '67 convertible was. I purchased the car from the third owner in 1980, corresponded with the second owner but he had bought the car in 1969 from a long closed dealer in a small New Jersey town. I contacted NJ and neighboring DMV's, ran ads in local newspapers and Corvette publications and talked with locals from the years that the car may have been in the area. I was very surprised that no one from the Corvette community came forward with any information. If someone was looking for information on a Corvette from West Palm Beach in the 1960's, I could probably help them and it's a bigger town than the one in NJ. Jim Weeks - Member #2978- Top

Re: Serial # search
i have the same delema got to #2 in 1971 on my 66 and am stalled there. i did dmv searches in 2 states what i got from michigan had ommited all names etc. i think it would be a great idea if some one started a data base for corvettes. i think we all have peices of puzzles that if all collected would answer many questions. i have at least 2 corvette titles as well as many papers. bill- Top

I got lucky on my '67....
After two years of detective work, I got all the paperwork from the West Virginia DMV from '67 up to '74, before all the state privacy laws went into effect. The picture below is the first page with the selling dealer and the first owner. His name is typed up top and his signature is at the bottom, but I had to white them out since I still talk to him. PT

Re: Serial # search
Terry,
I have to agree with some of the other guys. You're going to need some prior documentation (service receipts, insurance papers, etc.) and a TON of luck. I have a 1966 and traced the ownership back to 1975. You just have to go one owner at a time, and hope that each one will give you clues to the next one. Some will be more cooperative than others. When I bought my car last year, I was told that I was the fourth owner. I thought I might actually be fifth or sixth. Well, I've talked to every owner from 1975 to me, and I'm actually number ELEVEN!!! Who knows how many owners were between 1966 and 1975. I'm still working on that decade.
The good part of the story is that I've heard some great stories about my car, I've learned alot about where its been and what's happened to it over the years (some good, some bad) and I've received photos of my car at different points in time. One of the prior owners was actually good enough to return my car's original owners manual to me. He took it out of the car in 1986 and saved it. Athough I'm running out of leads and seem to be stuck at 1975, I've really enjoyed doing the detective work and meeting people who owned my car as far back as thirty years ago. One thing I have done was to write down everything that proir owners have told me. I hope such documentation will help future owners of my car. Finally, don't give up. Look at the research and detective work as fun. Good luck.
