    Part Number ID

I noticed the ealier thread on the ID for a 4657 fuel pump. I have one with 4657AX stamped on the flange. What's the significance of the "AX"? Also, I am curious about the application of a starter I have with # 1107247 and a date of 1/3/64. Thank you! Rick

    Rick-----

The suffix "AX" is some sort of manufacturing coding. Various codes are often seen. Paul Baker of Goat Hill has, supposedly, found a decoding system for some of these codes but he "won't tell anyone". As things stand now and as far as judging is concerned, I think that the suffix codes are considered irrelevant.

The GM #1107247 starter was originally used on 1964 Chevrolet cars and trucks with 283 cid engines. Of course, there's nothing to say that what you have is the complete, as-originally-configured 1107247 starter. If it's been through a commercial rebuilding operation at any time in its life, the only thing that likely remains of the original starter is the frame (the part with the numbers stamped on it). Otherwise, it may have been reconfigured and definitely would not have the rest of its original components.
