Have any of you thought about establishing a data base of corvette SN's by C1, C2, etc. that are still out there. I don't know if it is worth while or if any of you would be willing to share the information. I would be willing to collect the information and put it together and post it on line. I know a lot of us are trying to track our cars back and not having much luck. That is why I posted my previous message about the Corvette Owner Card. We all have small bits of information that I feel could be helpful to all of us.

Re: Data Base
i brought this up this week in a post. a good start would be with people that have POP's, window stickers original bill of sales or were just a person who bought one new. i feel cheated that if i had a GTO i could get it all. having one place to post it all would be a great service to the hobby. in my opinion any one that would hold back information or seek to make a huge profit is not a true corvette lover. with my car i feel i am it's keeper and it will out last me. whenever i find some thing i stored away i try to find the current owner of the car. what good is alot of this stuff to any one that does not own the car it goes to? unless it's just an ego thing or i don't have it why should they get this, that is a stupid attitude in my opinion. bill- Top

Re: Data Base
Yes, there's lots of them.
Without putting too fine a point on it, the fact that you suggested creating one without searching/finding an existing one explains why there's so many.- Top

Re: Data Base
There is also the human factor that those who have information want to be known as THE registry. There is little sharing in a two way path and no one wants to yield their database to the other guy.
As such, they will always remain small and not as much help as they could be.
The www.c1registry.com and its associated ones for C2 and C3 are the possible exception, as they are there for all to see.
If you really want to support the hobby, then add all you can to those three. Also, put up links to them on every web page you have, so that Google and Yahoo will pick them up as the main hit.- Top

Re: Data Base
Chris: I know what you mean. Even the responses here to my sugestion has brought little response. Just look at how many views compared to how many responses, and most of the responses have not been very encouraging. I looked at the c1registry and there is not much there. I feel that it could be a good site but they are trying to get into to large of an arena. I was thinking more of just Year, SN, Options, owners (by name and dates of inclusive ownership). Not all that other stuff pictures, articles, ads, and etc. Some thing more simple. After all, we all usually know the dates of our ownership and that of the prior owner (from the title). Some like myself might even have laying around information about other vetts we owned.- Top

Re: Data Base
Hi Jay,
The three registries do support all the information you mention above. Each car can be enriched with information on current and previous owners, options, serial numbers, colors, etc. etc.) also specific pictures of tags (trim and serial), and stamppads can be added and queried. We are also planning to add facilities for tank sheets for cars from 66 onwards in the near future....

??
so what's the point - you don't know where there is a registry or you don't like the one that has been created by people like Rob M., for free? If in fact you "might even have laying around information about other vetts we owned" then do the hobby a favor and add the info. Or, just sit back, hoard your info and complain . . . . seems to be the national pastime.
Folks who actually facilitate the gathering of information by creating a registry (like Rob M.) or those who take the time to add all the info they have (like those who have done so) should be applauded and encouraged - they are giving back to the hobby. And, as others pointed out, the location of such registries should be publicized.65 MM Convertible, L76 (365 hp)- Top
