    63 seat back vents "chrome/brass"

After cleaning up my black vinyl seats, I read the JG and low and behold it states that the vents on the backs should be "chrome". Not so on what i belive to be original covers and the vents are "brass".
You people with what you belive to be "as delivered from the factory" seat covers, would look to see if your's are chrome or brass. I have no intentions of changing this item on my seats, but maybe there is an error somewhere that needs revision. All indications of these seats points to original per the AIM as it was done. If you would include month of production, this may show a mfg. change at some point of the 63 production year.

Jim I made a big "boo boo" when posted what my '63s had. My Sept '62 has chrome and my Oct '62 has brass. I'm really sorry about that...Regards Frank

my seats are original and the vents are a dull chrome (have not tried to make them shine though). but it is possible they were plated brass and the plating is worn off. my build date is oct 62

Bill...of course anything is possible, I've only owned the Oct '62 car for the last 10 yrs. But you would think if previous owners cleaned the seats with abrasive cleaners, it still wouldn't have removed all traces of chrome. I won't swear to the authenticity of this vehicle, but I've owned my Sept '62 since 1976 and I feel good about swearing to that one!! Save The Wave, Frank

I just dug out my original saddle leather seat covers, which are stamped "AUG 1962". The vents are shiny metal and do not attract a magnet. I just filed the back of the grommet and it indeed is brass. However the entire vent is plated so unless you file it, the appearance is as stainless or silver colored plating.
Though plated, the vent screen itself is darkened as you would expect a piece of tarnished brass to be. Looking with a manifying glass the vent screen is shiny metal. The whole affair looks to be a variation of a big grommet.
