    14 Degrees, -12 wind chill

Roads where clear and dry. I took my white and blue 71 coupe out to the drug store, subway, and then about 20 miles through the country side of north east Indianapolis. Only time I worried was when i saw the four deer cross the road about 70 yards in front of me. A very enjoyable ride.

What is the caulking material everyone is using to seal the windshield trimgap to the t-top trim piece? I think I used grey silicone caulk last time, but that was ten years ago.

Oh, there was a game yesterday and the men in white and blue won!

    GO COLTS!

It should be noted that North Dakotans do not

use "wind chill" charts if the temperature is above O. This may explain in part why I have been in Arizona for the last 38 years.

            They're smart...

Weathercast people love to 'sensationalize' the news by quoting low temp conditions in terms of the equivalent wind chill factor. Since very few people I know walk around stark raving naked under low temperature conditions, the wind chill factor doesn't mean very much!

Heck, I had one ski instructor tell me he was out skiing one day when it was 45 below zero! I had to call him on this because he wasn't BLIND... Eyeballs can/do flash freeze at those temps and those who work outside have to wear full body 'armor' of face drastic consequences.

When 'called' he stuttered/stammered and then confessed it was the wind chill factor he was quoting. It was only -12F that day.

OK, that's cold enough but it's NOT the same as bona fide -45F ambient conditions. All kinds of squirrely and DANGEROUS things happen when the temperature drops that low...

              Re: They're smart...

You bet it does at -45*F. I have been there (well almost it was -42*) -- forty years ago, and I still vividly remember it. In the UP in the winter of ‘64-65. The WARMEST it was all week was -30.

Sound changes at that temperature. When you walk in the snow, it crunches in a very different way -- even different than the crunch at zero. The sound of an engine has more of a ring to it. Throw a glass of water in the air, and it will freeze before it hits the ground. Beer freezes solid, except for a core of alcohol that stays liquid -- and it tastes real bad after it thaws. LP gas is not a gas at those temperatures. If that is your home heating fuel it has to be heated to turn it to a gas in order to operate the furnace. And Jack is right -- those temperatures are downright dangerous -- one misstep and your life is gone.

Ironically at -40 both Fahrenheit and Centigrade are the same.
