    1968 Seat Track Rebuild?

Any suggestions on where to have my 1968 seat tracks restored?
They are in pretty good shape, but could use some pieces replaced due to pitting.

    Thanks,

    Steve

    Steve,

I soaked mine in kerosene and was able to get them working fine. Depending onwhat's pitted, you may be able to dis-assembly them and make repairs. Also, I see them frequently on ebay and at flea markets, so you might try there before doing the re-build.

      Thanks Dennis,

Mine move freely, but the riveted parts on the front of the tracks are somewhat pitted, I think I have seen these parts for sale by Doc Rebuild.

I'm not sure how difficult it is to repair those parts?

      Regards,

      Steve

Probably drilling out the old rivets and installing the new brackets and rivets. Of course depending on the metal, the rivets may be a little bit of a problem unless you have a press. I had one with rusted front mounting brackets and I picked up another set at Carlisle and cleaned them and greased them and they are ready to go. If I get a chance I will look to see if I have any extra tracks. I know I was gathering them up when I was working on the seats.

More difficult than it looks...drilling out the rivets doesn't get those "feet" off, there are also two tiny spot welds.

After drilling the rivets out, the feet can be broken off (side to side motion), and you can grind off the spot welds. The replacement pieces are nice, but typically attach with a bolt.

It'd be hard to see the repair, but unless you're missing part of the foot altogether, I'd stick with original setup.
