i had bought a belt for my L72 prt # 3837810 sv and it seems too small. when i looked it up in Paragon's cat it did not have a listing for the 427/425 hp engine. Does the L72 use a waterpump belt? if so what is the part # i need? thanks, bill

Re: water pump belt L72 question

If by "waterpump belt" you are referring to the captive belt which runs only between the waterpump pulley and the crank pulley, then, yes, the 1966 L-72 did use such a belt. That belt was the one you have: GM #3837810.
Keep in mind that while this belt might SEEM too short, it might not be. These belts fit quite tightly and can be a bear to install. The best way that I have found is too remove the crank pulley, place the belt around the inner groove of the waterpump pulley and the inner groove of the crank pulley WITH THE CRANK PULLEY FLAT UP AGAINST THE BALANCER. Then, pull the balancer pulley down until the center locating "knob" snaps into the balancer center hole. Finally, pull down a little further, line up the bolt holes, install the bolts and you're done.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
