    Painting

I am having my 63 SWC painted for the 2nd time by a different painter. (first time was a disaster...)
I purchased a pint of PPG DDL 32312 (not sure of the number of hand, but its close) , 941 sebring silver laquer and did a spray-out-panel. It matches the orig factory paint. (But I want to use a 2-stage paint system)
I also purchased a pint of DBC 32312, equivalent for laquer, base-coat-clear-coat from Auto Color Library, but have not received it yet. I understand, this paint supplier uses PPG product. When we do a spray-out, we'll know how close the PPG BCCC matches the laquer.
    Her are my questions:
    1. Does DuPont paint have a match for PPG laquer ?
    2. What is the DuPont paint spec number for 63 sebring silver ?
    2. Is there a difference between PPG and Dupont paint, in the way it sprays, covers etc ?
My painter wants to use DuPont, he claims it is a better paint and lays on better and he likes to use it...
(If we find a match, I have no problem with it)

    Re: Painting

they mix these paints in the store. the same store could mix you a batch and later mix you another batch and they will be different. they weigh the colors that they mix to get your color and it's not an exact science. if you take them a sample, they can custom match it pretty close.

According to the Corvette Paint Codes website, the Dupont number is 4027. I can still get PPG lacquer in Houston but am not sure if Dupont is still available anywhere. Your painter may prefer Dupont because he is already stocked with Dupont products (thinners, etc.) and wants to stay with one manufacturer. As an amateur, I've sprayed both and can't tell the difference. It's very possible that a professional can.

Thanks. Mac and Tim, hope my painter can match with the DuPont. I will pass the number on to him...
I can still get the PPG laquer here in Mich also, but want to use the more modern 2-stage urathane paint system...
