    Re: Corvette Fever Magazine Article

Two Guys Garage is practically an infomercial. I take everything they recommend with a chunk of salt.

        Myron -

I sure hope you're kidding . I spent 38 years with GM and Chrysler, and believe me, any manufacturer would KILL for even 1/10th of a mile per gallon fuel economy improvement, especially if it's a ten-cent add-on device that didn't require any design, development, testing, durability, emissions certification, tooling and facilities investment, or pre-production and launch expense.

Even the Federal Trade Commission can't stop these ripoff artists - they just keep paying lawyers to go to court, sign one consent decree after another, continue to violate the decrees, pay more lawyers, sucker more consumers that know ZOT about cars (and TV shows), and spread more money around to keep the hype going. When they sell a device for $40.00 that costs less than $1.00 to make, they just keep raking in MOUNTAINS of money to keep the FTC at bay.

          John,

Are you sure? Isn't there a hush-hush conspiracy between the government and the oil companies to keep quiet any fuel saving devices? How about the Fish carburetor?

They don't lose $4K per vehicle....

Myron, They don't lose $4K per vehicle. Even if they did it would not be because the cost of the parts in the vehicle. It would be for health care coverage, certification, design other fixed overhead costs and write offs/downs etc. If they did, one quick fix would be don't make any... Presto $4k savings per car not made.... Eric #3,182

Ah, yes. ANOTHER dose of the 'real world"

courtesy of the good Doctor. Is it any wonder that a number of us make repeated stops at the "Holy" spaces at Carlisle every year?? Well, yeah, it MIGHT have something to do with the free beer, but we're really only seeking KNOWLEDGE ABOUT THE HOBBY.......

                        Re: Popular Mechanic's debunking

This may work if the carburetor was one big one-barrel with nothing in the barrel. Think how the water spins as it flushes down a toilet.

However, the carbs are 2- and 4-bbl and have several items hanging in each barrel that disrupts the air flow. Even the throttle plate will disrupt the flow.

A fuel injection unit (TBI) is just as bad or worse. The port injections still have one huge throttle plate that disrupts. Possibly, if they could spin the air/fuel mixture after the carb/FI, then it may actually have an effect on the mixture, but even that is doubtful.

Good idea gone bad in practical application.
