I’m currently in the process of rebuilding my engine/transmission on my 72 vette. I’m finally getting close to putting it all back together. On the manual transmission there are two holes for attaching the shift linkage. It was originally attached to the top set of holes making the movement in the shifter longer. Does anyone have any thoughts on using the lower holes and making the throw of the shifter shorter?

Short throw Shift linkage on a 72
Dave,
Moving to short throw will result in a slight increase of shifting effort. I have never had a complaint about that. The shifter will also have a more positive feel, less sloppy. If you do change, mount the shifter and adjust the linkage before you reinstall the tranny. It is much easier to set the neutral gate out of the car! As Arnold Palmer once said, " you can feel it when you drive!".
Have fun, WB- Top

Re: Shift linkage on a 72
Ditto when I pulled me tranny lasy year for a rebuild. Took some getting used too, as I kept wanting to jam the thing up in first! STW, Mike- Top
