    283 Block Decking

What is the maximum amount that can be taken off a 283 block in the decking process and it still be useable. Thanks Jimmy

    it all depends

If you take much off the block, you will need special pistons or special thick head gaskets. In addition, if the pistons are significantly moved toward the crank centerline, you will need to machine your intake and get shorter pushrods as well.

I think you could get away with .025" and still be able to get parts to line up ok. Structurally, you could probably take off a lot more but the engine would be a bear to bolt back together.
