Forget about judging points for a minute.I have the aluminized 67 side exhaust pipes sold by Long Island. They don't sound very good. Any suggestions on who makes the best sounding side pipes for a 327/350?

ok I know you guys are right but I just love the look and lack of heat under my backside. Besides I am tired of judging manuals and just want to sound good. Got anymore "great suggestions?"- Top

Re: 67 side exhaust sound
Chuck, now that we've just heard from the two Vette owners in the country that don't like sidepipe music, you can concentrate on getting some real suggestions for the best sounding pipes. I have OE pipes, but they're GM discontinued (too bad, great sound!)Good luck.

Re: 67 side exhaust sound
Chuck,
I have had side pipe cars and learned to wear ear plugs when driving very far. Look good, sound loud. Sound best with a Duntov cam.
Your best bet is original GM sidepipes if you can find them.
Good luck,

Re: 67 side exhaust sound
Chuck, I had the Long Island ones ( made by Allens)on my 67 BB and they were too loud, if such a thing is possible. Sounded like straight pipes. I replaced them with the OEM replacements from Sweet Thunder. Much better but not as nice as the original GMs.

Thanks John. Found some on ebay that look promising Aapparently a new product) from someone called Dr. Exhaust will check it out. Even Long Island switched from Allen's but I forgot their sources name.- Top

Re: 67 side exhaust sound
Chuck
I added OEM sidepipes to my 66 over 30 years ago and they were great. However as the years flew by they got extremely loud and driving over 70 miles a day to work and back just became to much to bear. I could never find good original sounding pipes from any AM source so a few years ago I went back to under the car exhaust.
Since I don't show or have my car judged I would go back to side exhaust if anyone would make them sound as original.
I will also have the same issue with my 69 which has the original side pipes on the car but are old and rusted.
Side exhaust has been disussed here a number of times but so far no one has found good original sounding side exhaust. Same pretty much goes for regular mufflers.

Re: 67 side exhaust sound
I had a set of Allen's on my BB 67 and it failed the PV because they were too loud. I found an OEM pair and they sound much better, a far better pleasing rumble. (they passed the PV). I learned the difference was that the repos have a 2" inner baffle and original have a 1 1/2" inner baffle (I think, it may be a little larger). So be sure when you are shopping for side pipes ask the size of the inner baffle.- Top
