    C2 POWER BRAKE

I have my MC and booster off for rework / refinish. My copy of the 63/64 TIM-JG is the 3rd edition ( waiting on the 5th ) and I am confused with the explanation on pg 128 "BRAKE SYSTEM UPDATE " regarding the plating finish. It says that 64 model has a gold cad MC cap and booster and 63s, silver. (some late 63s may have gold cad). Well my 64 built Nov 63, has both silver cap and booster. Booster tabs are 4311 @ 10:00 and 256 @ 3:00 ( Sept 13 julian date ? ) At first I thought maybe the gold all faded away in time, but when I removed the white plastic boot on the rear the finish underneath was like new silver. Was any of this info changed in 4th ed. I don't know which way to proceed with replating, in fact if it can remain silver I may be able to just clean up what I have with steel wool. The cap turned out great. Sorry for the run-on. Thanks for any help, Jim

    Re: C2 POWER BRAKE

Have a Mar64 car with power brakes. The booster and MC cap I believed to always be silver. When I took the booster apart some dim (I mean dim) gold could be seen on the inside ONLY. However I never remember seeing any gold on the outside on either part, owned car since Aug67.
Had booster done in gold, now only MC cap is silver. So who knowns what the real story is? If you clearly see that no gold remains any where including the inside than I would leave it alone - the next edition or the one that follows may just change the color. It appears that these 63/64 have many different assembly questions that still need to be settled.

Thanks Alan, I'm with you. My only delimma was if I replate silver, some judge may think thats wrong and with all the evidence gone I couldn't prove anything. Only original once. Also, if I steel wool them the judges still may not agree because that can remove the gold finish. I know, because that happened to me when cleaning up the steel dish behind the sealed beam HL.
