I have found a couple of 'original' radiator caps for a 1973 Corvette, they have the AC logo and 13 lbs stamped on them in the recess at the brass rivet. The sealing rubber gasket is dried and has some small cracks in it. Is there anyway to replace this worn out rubber ring?
Roger
I know of no way to replace the rubber seal on the cap unless the center rivet is drilled out and replaced, too. I believe that there are some folks doing this. However, if you have a cap marked "13 lbs" then you have a cap that's not what you're looking for, anyway. The cap used for 1973 Corvettes was an RC-33 which was rated at 15 PSI. A photo is attached.
If you have a few donner caps you can heat the rubber up in water and remove the rubber seal and install it on your correct 73 cap. This will not work for older caps but should work for you.
