    78 Pace Car Decals... Judges?

Here's the hypothetical... What point deduction would there be if you had a set of repop decals on the car and OEM/NOS decals in the box in the back? 10 pts? 5pts? 0 points. COuld I convince the judge that the applied decals were just colorful dirt? Eric #3,182

    Eric
The last I knew the deduction was 10 for installed decals. An extra set in the car would not be judged. As I recall the deduction is 10 for missing or installed decals.

I would ask the owner which set of decals he wanted me to judge- and to remove the other set from the judging field

Was it installed as part of normal dealer prep? Cars are judged accordingly.

Isn't NCRS judging supposed to be "per normal dealer prep"?

If so, the dealers prepped them with the decals and the spoilers, regardless of what you want to think. There were some lawsuits at the time over installed decals, because they were noted on the order to "leave the decals off".

I'm with Lyle...10 point deduct but I would give you an "attaboy" for the box and NOS decals inside.

What about PC VIN #001 or 002?

                  Tom/Lyle,

Out of Curiosity, If Al Unser Sr decided to flight judge PC #002 what would his deduction be since his was created with the decals on? Or the H000000 Prototype? Eric

I was short with my previous response but unless he produced documentation from the factory that indeed they applied the decals, the ruling would be disputed up the NCRS line but with all probability default to a deduction. But it would be interesting.

Tom, Yes it would be Interesting. Thank you for the answers. I know this can of worms has been opened before. I just like the look of the decals on the car. I guess I had better look for an $100 oil filter to make up for the hit. Eric #3,182

I don't own a 78, but I've always found the on/off decal argument somewhat silly. We allow for an owner to have license plate frames and screws in the car OR on the car, yet we don't allow for Pace Car decals in the same manner? If there is a standardized "new car prep" then I would think that all items would be judged accordingly, no matter how easy they might be to install or remove.

Does anyone have a copy of the dealer preparation list for these years? I remember one guy suing the dealership for installing the decals and the dealer insisted it was part of the Chevrolet prep. I don't remember how it turned out.
