The service manual calls for a sealant compound to be used around the coolant ports in the intake manifold when installing the intake manifold. What sealant should I use here? I have some ultra black sealant for the front and rear end-gaskets of the manifold. Should I use a sealant around the other holes?

Use the Ultra Black around the coolant passages as well as for the end seals. In my experience, sealant makes no difference with respect to sealing the ports. Usually, it just makes more of a mess. If the ports won't seal with the gaskets alone, they won't seal with the added use of sealer, either. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Intake Manifold Sealant Compound
Thanks Joe,
Based on your experience, I guess the sealant on the gasket will just help hold it in place while I position the intake on the new gaskets.
In a follow-up to my original post below on intake bolts, I noted that the NAPA gasket (manufactured by Dana) thickness are considerably higher than NOS gaskets. Hopefully this is a reflection of what it has taken to resolve the internal misting and perhaps I will be able to resolve the internal oil losses. I will report any success I have when I get to this fun stuff this weekend. If all goes well, I should know by early next week.
