71 BB Valve Covers

    71 BB Valve Covers

    I am trying to figure out if the valve covers that I have for my BB are correct or not. The one thing that I am not sure about is where the oil filler cap goes. The hole is designed for the metal style filler cap which is on the car, but all I have read is that it is supposed to be the round rubber slip in cap. Is this cover still right for this type of rubber cap or should it be different? This is a late 71 car (end of april 71). If saomeone could send me some pictures of correct valve covers for a power brake car that shows all the right clips, brackets and filler and vent holes would be greatly appreciated.

      I think that some early 1971 big blocks used the 1970-style valve covers. However, if yours is one of them, then the cover should also be chrome, as were all 1970 Corvette big block valve covers. If you have a PAINTED valve cover with a 'twist-lock' oil filler, then I don't think that it's original to the car.

          I have a March 1971 car. The oil cap is rubber with "OIL" enscripted on it. The valve covers are painted.Car is in storage, so I can't get picture, but the 1970-72 judging guide goes into detail on this..Jim
