Tony-----
My recollection is that it's 3872444. I'm sure about the "38" part and I'm sure about the "444" part. But, I'm not certain about the "72" part without my references available to me at the moment. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Need 66 425 bellhousing number please
Tony-----
Just to confirm, my recollection was correct regarding the 1966 Corvette 427 bellhousing number------it is, indeed, GM #3872444. This is the GM PART number and CASTING number for the piece.
With respect to Corvettes, this particular bellhousing was used for only one application-----1966 with 427 cid and manual transmission. It was also used on certain 1964-66 passenger cars with 14" flywheel and HD clutch.
For model year 1967, this bellhousing was replaced for PRODUCTION by GM #3899621. And, in November, 1966 the GM #3872444 bellhousing was discontinued from SERVICE and replaced by the 3899621 for all applications which originally used the 3872444.
In case you're wondering, the GM #3872444 and GM #3899621 bellhousings are, except for "numbers", virtually identical in configuration and they are functionally identical. The only configuration difference is the fact that one of the reinforcing ribs on the upper left side of the bellhousings are different. On the '444' bellhousing the rib is narrow and protrudes to the same degree as the other adjacent ribs on the unit. On the '621', this rib is wide and of much lower profile. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
