polishing clear coated wheels

my aluminum clear coated wheels have oxidation on them but they are not chipping. was wondering if the clear coat will clean up by polishing, everyone seems to think stripping the wheels are a pain? If so what do I use?

Hi Rick:

Because the "clear coat" is a powder coat it is not safe to assume that a clear coat polish will work however, I see no problem with attempting simple automotive polishing compound BY HAND in a small oxidized area. These coatings are extremely hard and durable so a fair amount of elbow grease will be required to clean anything. You always have the option of having them recoated, there are powder coat shops in any major area nowdays.
