I am restoring a 69 coupe, big block non A/C car. The car was very rusty. Thers is considerable rust in the steel frame channel on the body, as well as the windshield frame and the birdcage itself. I decided to get a different body rather than attempt repair of this one. The body I purchased is for an A/C car. As I have learned, the opening for the heater core is larger on the A/C car, compared to the non A/C car. Question is, Has anyone ever grafted in the part of the cowl necessary to use the correct heater core on the A/C body? Is it possible to make in undetectable? Does anyone have a better idea on what to do? I would also be interested in trading my birdcage for a correct one, if someone has one. I would appreciate any help. Thanks, Mark

Re: C-3 body problem
So I'm assuming that you plan to sacrifice a chunk of the "old" non A/C fire wall and graft it back onto the "new" A/C fire wall?
I feel pretty confident in saying that a quality body man experienced in fiberglass and body fillers could perform the work and make the repair area vitually invisible to the human eye.
Quality workmanship will cost you quality bucks Mark, as is always the case.

Re: C-3 body problem
Hi,
There is much more to change than just the opening of the heater box. I don't think it is feasible. I would rather change over to a AC setup. If you really are anxious about original, I would still go the route of the birdcage repair. I have done a complete birdcage swap, it is difficult, but can be done.
