61 hood repo vs original

My 61 hood has been repaired after someone cutting 2 - 12"X12" squares through the outer skin and the subframe. I've been quoted $1100 for a great original. CC and Paragon have repo's for $850 and they say they are perfect with correct PM fiberglass and rivets. Can you tell an original vs repo hood?

Are you trying to restore and Top Flight the car or make a good driver? If it's a driver, hoods can be found cheaper than the prices you are stating. Take some time and look around, swap meets, Carlisle, e-bay, etc. You can also put an ad in the driveline. Have you checked with any of the vendors who carry used parts, Crane's, Grossmueller's, or Mary Jo?

PS Most reliable vendors will tell you if they are exact reproductions or not. Not sure that the hood per say is judged, someone with more knowledge on the subject will surely post an answer on that.

Did you check your local chapter? Maybe someone has parts laying around? Those vendors are good but not cheap. If your not in a big hurry I would put an ad in the driveline.
