    Judging Question

I am working on restoring my 1976 L-82 4 speed, and want to know what is involved in the Sportsman division? I read what is on the website, but have questions.

    1) Do all NCRS shows do this type of judging?

    2) Is this a good way to really see what is wrong with your car?

    3) At what point in the restoration process would you enter your car?

I want to get envolved as I have become compulsively anal about finishes and parts correctness. Any one who can share their experiences in this class of judging would be greatly appreciated!!

    Thanks!

    Re: Judging Question

Sportsman is not a judged event as such. It is essentially a recognition for attending and bringing your car. Flight judging is where you learn about the car, and it can be done at virtually any point in time that the car can be moved under it's own power, the earlier in your ownership the better if you plan is to restore at some time. Waiting until after you have made decisions that cost money is really too late.

The requirement to enter the Sportsman class is to have a Corvette , no judging , it's a secure parking lot area only

        Re: Judging Question

I took the plunge with flight judging at chapter meets with both of my cars the last couple of years. One is a genuine driver, and the other is a low mileage original. I subsequently obtained a blueprint for improvement and restoration. My score improved by around 2 to 3 percent with minor items by the time I had them judged at a regional meet. The whole process is fun for me. I'm working to improve my driver by a couple of more points in order to obtain the next level award.

So to really get a handle on your car, one should just have it "Flight" Judged? This is fun for me too! How many points do you need for the different levels? Do they do that type of judging locally? Do have to be a member of a local Chapter?

          Thanks!

            Re: Judging Question

I purchased the manuals and read them. They informed me as to what was correct and what needed to be changed. Having a car judged places points to each item discussed in the manual. Points are awarded for originality and then condition. For example, an original part with scratches on it many times scores higher than a reproduction part that is perfect in condition but not completely correct in configuration. Each car starts with 4,511 points. 94% of the points is a Top Flight, 85% is Second Flight, and 75% is Third Flight. One thing I prefer NCRS judging over the local car shows is that it's not a cleaning contest. A little lint or dust is less important that original parts.

Chapters are listed on another part of this web-site. Most usually have a Chapter Meet each year. There are a few Regionals a year and one National each year. Find a local chapter and have your car judged. It'll be an education in and of itself.

Christopher, you do not have to be a chapter member to have your car judged, but being a member and participating is a good way to find out about your car and learn. Besides, what could be better'n being with a bunch of Corvette freaks. Ohio is blessed with several chapters. You should be able to find one fairly close to you
