C3 (72) spark plug heat shield & wire covers

    Hi All,
Could some one tell me if there is suppose to be on LT1 the v shaped wire covers on both sides of the motor (they are crome?) allso dose the heat shielding (they look like they shield the spark plugs from manifold heat) cover all spark plugs? Two more things, is there suppose to be crome shilding over all the plugs and french locks on all the exhaust manifold bolts. This is an A/C car.
    Thank you in advance.

Assuming that the car has a factory-installed radio (which is likely since it was equipped with C-60), it should have the lower "V" shields on either side shielding the spark plug wires.

The spark plug HEAT shields (the zinc plated, fabricated steel shields which attach to the block with one 1/4-20 screw) should be present at all 4 positions (each shields two spark plug).

The chrome or stainless steel shielding which otherwise covers the spark plugs is part of the radio interference suppression system. If the car has a factory-installed radio, then it should be present. However, for 1972, this would include shielding at only the 2 rearmost positions on each side; no shielding was used at the forwardmost positions.

The french locks should be present on the 2 manifold end bolts on each side for a total of 4 french locks. The 2 center bolts on each side use no french locks.

I think on 72's the V shields were not chrome. I have seen them made from galvanized steel, sometimes a cad color, and natural. I have samples of all four but do not know what years they may have been original if any. I hope others will comment.
