I have a complete 68 Q-jet core and was wondering where the date code was stamped in those years. What I have is the usual vertical number 7028216 FF and nothing more.I am accustomed to the date code being in close proximity to that vertical part number. Is there a different place it could have been stamped for dating in this year? TIA, Craig

Craig------
The date code will sometimes be found on the edge of the throttle body assembly, below and to the right of the area where the part number is vertically stamped on the float bowl. It's usually a 4 digit, Julian-type code.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 68 Q-jet date code location
There were two sources of QJet carbs (Rochester and Carter) and the JG book covers their marking differences. First, QJets made by Carter will bear an emboss on the body declaring their Carter source. Study the side of the carb's body near the QJet emboss and you'll see the Carter acknowledgement if this carb was built by Carter.
Last, the date coding sequence used by Rochester differs from Carter. Rochester used a Julian dating sequence (XXXY) where XXX= the Julian day of the year and Y= the year digit. Carter built carbs use alphanumeric sequence similar to most GM cast parts. MY is the sequence with M being an alpha character for the month (A= January) and Y being the year digit. Often, you'll find a pretty healthy separation on Carter carbs between the PN and date code emboss on the LH vertical stamp pad of the carb body...- Top

Re: 68 Q-jet date code location
Jack,
No Carter designation on this one. The throttle body does not have any date code stampings either. I guess this could have been through a rebuilding house years ago and had a replaced throttle body.It could have rebuilt several times- who knows, I sure dont. Well, either way, I dont need it, so it will sell as a core. Thanks Joe & Jack for input........Craig- Top
