    c2 steering column capacitor

    can anyone tell me what the big capacitor is under the dash ,just left of the steering column on a 65 ,the one on my car is not hooked up to anything ,it is two inches long with 2 long black leads and the diameter of a nickel , is this for some option my car does not have.?

    Most likely, it's the radio interference suppression system capacitor originally connected to the brake lamp switch.

      Jim -

      That's a radio noise suppression capacitor for the stop light switch - check your assembly manual, section U69, sheet A5, top right illustration.

          Sometimes, the radio RF cap on the brake light switch was intentionally disconnected by prior owner/mechanic because the cap was bad causing fuses to blow when the brakes were applied... Disconnecting the cap was an el-cheapo 'solution' to replacing it!
