    Hansen Chevrolet in California

Does anyone remember Hansen Chevrolet in Los Angeles? I believe it was on Wilshire BLVD. Our 58 Corvette came with a black plate and a Hansen Plate trim ring. I believe it was still open in 1967. Was it a big dealer? Eric #3,182

Don't remember Hansen but don't throw out that plate and ring. If for any reason in the future the car ended up back in CA they could reapply with that plate. In fact I know a gentleman that keeps his CA bought cars co-registered in CA and the home state. Goes non-op $5 a year but keeps the plates current. You can get a repop plate online to match the original if you wanted a set.

My 1968 was delievered from Hansen in May of 1968 so they lasted at least that long.

      The address in 1968 was:
      11351 W Olympic Blvd
      Los Angeles, CA 90064

I don't know any more than that.

John, Thanks. I will add that to my info on Hansen. Looking at google maps that address appears to be a high rise building now. (click on Satellite to see picture) Eric #3,182

I bet the arrow is pointing to the wrong side of the street. When I look up my house it points to the wrong house. The place on the corner looks like it could have been a car lot, or up the street. I drive Olympic I'll check it out.

I believe the original owner of my 59 purchased the car at Hansen. I have a bunch of her maintenance receipts from Hansen. Last one is dated November 1970. I think she moved out of LA around then.

A few years ago, I tried to figure out how long Hansen had been closed. I don't remember the exact year. Been closed a long long time now.

I have a few of the Hansen maintenance receipts posted on my website. A link to an engine overhaul for $110 in 1964 appears below.

                  Russ, et al-----

There used to be a lot of Chevrolet dealers in the Los Angeles area, including some that were famous in the 60's "Golden Age of Muscle Cars". Most are gone, now. They've been replaced by Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Hyundai, and others that, for all practical purposes, did not even exist in the 60's.

There are still a few "old-time" dealers left still using their original names and at the original locations, although they may be under new management. One is Cormier Chevrolet in Long Beach. Another is Clippinger Chevrolet in West Covina.

With help, I was able use the tank sticker to trace the derivation of my 67 roadster to Jack Head Chevrolet in Alhambra. Big in racing for a brief period of time--now long defunct.
